Welcome

This is your place to find teachers, students, professionals and others specializing in Afro-Cuban dance. We welcome people who love Afro-Cuban dance, with a special focus on Orisha, rumba (yambu, guaguanco, columbia) and palo/makuta/yuka. Please join us if you're a student, a teacher, in the religion, or simply someone who supports or has an interest in Afro-Cuban dance.

We also welcome folks with an interest in other Afro-Caribbean/African diaspora dance (sacred or folkloric) including bomba and plena, dances of Candomble, etc.

We have more than 300 videos (updated regularly, and tagged by keyword), listings of classes and teachers around the world, and much more. To get access to all features, Sign Up Now!

Let's Form Groups

Posted by CJ on April 15, 2010 at 7:00am 0 Comments

We now have 70 members, and an international crew, which is very exciting. I'm hopeful that now we can start forming Groups (see the Groups section in the main menu) for cities where we have more than 3-5 members, like Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York, Miami and San Francisco.

Having groups makes it easy for new and existing members to find other Afro-Cuban dance enthusiasts they can actually meet and connect with at local classes and workshops. It's also a great resource for folks who… Continue

Ahhh Spammers ...

Posted by CJ on March 31, 2010 at 11:46am 1 Comment

Well, our first spammer joined yesterday, so I've changed the settings on the Ning so I approve all members before they can join. I have also changed the privacy settings so only members can see "inside" the site -- nonmembers can only see the home page.

I hope you like these changes. Please give me your feedback on other aspects of the site. I want to make it responsive to your needs.

Thanks,

Today I had a lunch with Lidia, a friend and mentor who last year started a dialogue group for people interested in Lukumi and Santeria traditions, including practitioners. The group meets monthly, and those like myself who attend regularly have made new friends and learned from one another.

At our lunch together we discussed dance. We shared our observations that fewer and fewer people at tambors and bembes seem to know the sacred Orisha dances, even though Afro-Cuban dance is being… Continue
